School back in Session / New Internet Provider [ 9/19/2006 ]

The fall semester has begun, so things will be extra busy here. Please allow extra time for me to answer email. But if you don't hear anything back within 2 days, send the email again!!
In other news, we are upgrading our Internet service. The switchover should happen tonight.

Sentry 3.0 Beta 4 out [ 8/31/2006 ]
Sentry 3.0 Beta 4 is now out. Among the changes:

Simplified the screensaver options
More events are now logged in the log files
Can now use F11 to modify the current layout
SLF Layout editor can now revert changes
New toolbar button to show status of network access, resume if needed.
Fixed some RunOnce issues, the program not reappearing in the system tray
Started work on registration
Started work on USB export
Other tweaks

X-NetStat Professional 5.49d released [ 8/17/2006 ]
Updated to fix Lookup Tools not launching from the main form. Also, System Info now shows historical usage of X-NetStat, like total runs, connections displayed, etc.

Warden 1.1 released ! [ 8/8/2006 ]
Warden htaccess Manager 1.1 is now available ! You can now edit .htaccess files with your own directives and modifications prior to upload.   Another update is coming in August.   Download version 1.1 here.

Forum Upgrades [ 8/3/2006 ]

We've done some tweaks on the Fresh Software Forum, and more are planned. For one, now I'll get an email anytime a new message is posted, so I can be much more responsive to questions on there. Second, it no longer looks goofy on IE. Third, there is now a forum for Warden htpasswd Manager. And lastly, we have one new moderator and will potentially be looking for more.   More updates are coming soon, so stay tuned!

FreshFind 1.3 w/ Google Desktop released! [8/2/2006 ]

The ultimate freeware search tool gets an upgrade, with Google Desktop searches and direct URL jumping.

X-NetStat Professional 5.49c released! [ 7/25/2006 ]
What was going to be a bug-fix only release now has a couple new features, like the saving of Filter/Search bar filters, and a Log Viewer feature to update in realtime. Got a bit more done than expected!

X-NetStat Professional 5.49a "tampering" error [ 7/25/2006 ]
I had released a minor patch to X-NetStat 5.49, but forgot to sign the program file. This is now fixed, our apologies for any inconvenience that this may have caused!

X-NetStat Professional 5.49 released! [ 6/29/2006 ]
That's right, hot off the grill -- After a beta test, version 5.49 is finally here, and what a mighty "minor" update it is:

+ WinPcap Sniffer finished. It is now loaded dynamically, and not required to run XNS
+ Sniffed TCP connections now instantly added to Connection Table, no refresh needed
+ Added Direction field & column: Shows who initiated connection
+ Added Google search to Context menu
+ Can now select and kill multiple connections
+ Can now choose background color of Connection Table!
+ Options window now has more space
+ Got rid of an ugly area around the connection table
+ Leaner EXE size, about 122KB smaller!

+ Improved WinPcap Packet Sniffer support
+ Added Ethereal plug-in setup instructions

All users are encouraged to download this new version: The WinPcap Sniffer appears to use less CPU cycles, and has support for a broad range of network adapters. Download X-NetStat 5.49. WinPcap is optional : Get it from http://www.winpcap.org/install/default.htm
As always, upgrading is free for registered users. However, I am thinking about raising the price of X-NetStat Professional to reflect the large amount of work that I put in to maintaining and improving it. About a billion features have been added since the initial 5.0 release in May 2004. So, buy X-NetStat Professional today for the low price of $29.95. New Contact Info [ 6/24/2006 ]

We have a new phone line : . Call, leave a message, or fax. This number should be able to tell the difference between fax and voice calls, but there could be kinks to work out. We'll see what happens.
Also, the pager on the Contact Info page has been updated.   More details later...

Warden 1.01 released ! [ 6/20/2006 ]
Warden htpasswd Manager 1.01 is now available ! You can now specify your own outgoing email port. Double-clicking a Warden project file will now open it in Warden. And improvement to the emailer. Check it out on the Warden page.

Moving Update [ 6/6/2006 ]

I'm semi-moved into my new home in Eau Claire, and am still setting up the office. Program development will commence shortly with a new beta of Sentry 3.0 and a new version of Warden that supports sending email on a custom port. This summer will also see a large update for X-NetStat.
For those who've had Sentry Beta 2 expire on them, please re-download the setup file -- it will now operate until August 2006.

Crunch Time -- Web Development Help Wanted [ 5/14/2006 ]

It is finals week here at UW Eau Claire!! I will be very busy for the next couple weeks as I study and prepare to move across the river. I will be moved in and settled in early June.. Once that happens, Fresh Software will be full time till September and I'll dive head first into new development. Until then I will continue to check my email as often as possible (daily) and reply as soon as possible to all inquiries. Thanks for your patience. --Drew
PS: If anybody out there is good at Flash, and/or CSS and graphic design, I'd like to hear from you. I have big plans for the website.

X-NetStat Professional 5.49 Beta 2 -- with WinPCap Packet Sniffing [ 3/20/2006 ]
We are getting some reports that X-NetStat is not picking up traffic on certain network interface cards, especially on wireless cards:
If you are having a problem with the Packet Sniffer & Bandwidth Meters, please do the following:

Download and install the WinPcap packet capture library from http://www.winpcap.org/install/default.htm    (can be uninstalled)

Download X-NetStat Pro 5.49 Beta 2 from here: xns549p_setup_b2.exe . Install this new version, feel free to install OVER your old version.

Start X-NetStat again. You are now running version 5.49 beta 2.   Go into Options and then Packet Sniffer, and check Use experimental WinPCap Sniffer. You will need to restart X-NetStat.

After restarting, X-NetStat now uses the WinPCap Sniffer for packet capture. Click Advanced > Show WPC Sniffer to see if its working.

Whether or not the above solved the problem for you, we want to know about it! Please contact us and tell us your network adapter and what version of Windows you are running.   We are working on perfecting a broad solution and your input will be very helpful. To restore your old version of X-NetStat, go to the X-NetStat Download page and re-install 5.48

X-NetStat Professional 5.48 Released!   [ 2/19/2006 ]
A new version of X-NetStat is out with several updates:
+ Ctrl-Alt-X hotkey now brings X-NetStat out of the tray.
+ Fixed : New Connections were ALWAYS logged
+ Fixed : Potential bug when Splash Screen turned off
+ Fixed : Version-Check works again (domain change to freshsoftware.com)

Sentry 2.54 released ... Sentry 3.0 Beta in 9 days [ 2/14/2006 ]
Sentry 2.54 is released. Get it from the Sentry page!
A public beta version of Sentry 3.0 will be posted on 2-23-06, or in 9 days! We will be ending our free upgrade to Sentry 3.0 promotion on that day as well.

X-NetStat Professional 5.47 Released!   [ 1/25/2005 ]
A new version of X-NetStat is out with several updates:
+ Memory Leak Protection improved: XNS can now restart itself by the minute (Advanced Options)
+ Rules: Bandwidth triggers are more precise, up to .001 KB/s
+ Programs Menu now accepts separator bars (set name = to "-")
+ Changed icon of Programs button
+ Fixed a bug in the Filter/Search bar (couldn't hide two terms without hiding all)
+ Rearranged Rule Summary text in options for better reading
+ Added "Add New Rule..." to Rules Menu (no need to go thru Options)
+ Can now right click a connection and Extended Kill/Make Rule -> Make Rule
+ Keyboard shortcut for Refresh is now F5
+ Ctrl-R now does Address Resolve (IP/Hostname)
+ XNS no longer does Pentium-safe FDIV division. People with Pentium chips 120MHz and below may experience slightly incorrect calculations in the packet sniffer, but nobody really uses these slow chips anymore. Everyone else will have a slight performance boost.

We got FreshSoftware.com ! And other announcements [ 1/19/2006 ]

Over the last year Fresh Software has been in a struggle for the use of the domain freshsoftware.com .. we've had to keep quiet about it because of legal reasons, but now I'm pleased to say that as of a few days ago, the domain is back in our hands! Eventually we will be migrating the entire website to this new address.
I'm now offering a free license for the final version of Warden for anyone who finds a bug in the beta version.

X-NetStat 5.47 will be released in the next week.

FreshFind 1.2 Released! [ 1/9/2006 ]

FreshFind 1.2 is now out, and its free! FF will search your favorite search engine instantly, saving you the time it takes to fire up your browser and navigate there. Just hit the global hotkey (default is Win-S), type in what you're looking for, and you're staring at search results. Shazaam. New in 1.2 is WikiPedia and Dictionary.com support and the ability to save a search history. Check it out on the FreshFind page.    More updates coming soon...

X-NetStat Professional 5.46 Released!   [ 11/6/2005 ]
This update fixes a rare but important bug in the program, so all users should upgrade to this version. There's also new features:
+ Can now make rules based on a connection's upstream/downstream traffic rate
+ Added Group Policy results for current user (gpresult) to DOS Commands menu
+ Clicking "View Alert" for killed connections now displays a message
+ Process Info -> Open Containing Folder now also selects the program file in the folder

Sentry 2.53 Released!   [ 9/12/2005 ]
Sentry 2.53 fixes a couple bugs and adds an optional Power menu (turn off monitor, standby, hibernate) .. check it on the Sentry page.

    Summer Work Ends [ 9/6/2005 ]

Tuesday marks the start of classes here at UWEC and I will not have as much time for developing new programs. However a new program will be launched in September and service releases for Sentry and X-NetStat will continue to be posted. A facelift for the website is also in store.

X-NetStat Professional 5.44 released! [ 8/25/2005 ]
At long last the program supports Windows XP themes & styles, giving it a snazzy new look. Also two minor bugs were fixed in the WHOIS engine.

Sentry 3 screenshots! Fresh Find 1.1 released! [ 8/22/2005 ]
Two updates in one day! About 1 week ago Sentry 3 reached Alpha 1 status, and I've posted a few screenshots of it on the Sentry page. Work continues...
Also, Fresh Find 1.1 is released! New in 1.1 is the ability to add custom search engines, and a counter to keep track of how much time FF has saved you. Get it....

X-NetStat Professional 5.43 released! [ 8/10/2005 ]
A new version is out, 5.43, that fixes an issue with the WebServer / Remote Access, and fixes the Automatically Resolve Hostnames option -- specifically, when it is off, it now displays IP addresses instead of hostnames like it should.

Sentry & X-NetStat pick up more awards [ 8/8/2005 ]
X-NetStat Professional has picked up 7 new awards including an editor's choice from FreeTrialSoft and the holy grail of shareware awards, a 5-cow rating from Tucows! Sentry 2.5 has also picked up 11 awards since release. More later...
